Main Purpose of the Job

To be responsible for routine sampling checks on product deliveries into Guinness warehouse and to ensure that quality, safety and legality of the product are achieved to the highest standard. This is achieved through various checks. Any Non-conforming product is brought to the attention of the QA Supervisor so that a suitable course of corrective action can be implemented.

Case sampling from each delivery batch per product checking and recording outer-case labels, inner labels, weights, appearance and temperature. Providing support in assisting with “Quarantine” and in-depth sampling situations. Preparing and sending sample requests of product lines for internal and external company contacts and routine sampling / auditing in line with risk assessed protocol.

Duties include:

  • To assist in carrying out daily product checks ensuring the correct documentation is completed and any non-conforming product is brought to the attention of the QA Supervisor so a suitable course of corrective action can be agreed and implemented.
  • To carry out weekly calibration checks on all mobile and fixed scales in the warehouse to ensure they are within the spec tolerances specified.
  • To carry out weekly chemical strengths checks and report any failures to the QA Supervisor so corrective action can be implemented.
  • To continually monitor & implement good hygiene practice throughout the facility. Ensuring any recurring failures are flagged up to the QA supervisor.
  • To carry out knife control as per procedure, removing damaged knives & documenting on relevant paperwork.
  • To carry out environmental manual temperature checks to the required schedule and to report and out of spec results to the QA supervisor.
  • To carry out a warehouse foreign body audit to the required schedule and to report and out of spec results to the QA supervisor.
  • To place product on hold when necessary, completing necessary paperwork & following up any corrective actions.
  • To raise non-conformances for out of specification product & issuing corrective action & following up.
  • To maintain the QA sample shelves in an orderly manner.
  • To ensure daily & weekly duties as listed on task sheets are completed.
  • To carry out any additional tasks as assigned by your manager(s).  There may be occasions when overtime or weekend work may be required to meet the demands of the business.
  • To ensure factory rules are being adhered to by all staff & agency staff at all times.Works to ensure that where ever possible tasks carried out minimize environmental impact

Reporting to the site Product Development Controller and working closely with key discipline heads at site & within Cranswick Convenience Foods division, this role is to manage new product development projects from concept through to launch. Will also be required to support and deputise for the site Development Controller in the execution of their duties.

  • Production of development samples that meet the requirements of the NPD Brief and are technically, operationally and financially feasible;
  • Maintain project files with sufficient detailed notes, recorded chronologically, such that samples can be reproduced at a future time;
  • Derivation, from first principles, of food safe and legally compliant recipes
  • Source new ingredients (and relevant associated information) in line with any guidelines issued by either the Technical or Purchasing departments;
  • Completion of any customer NPD documentation, as required;
  • Presentation of NPD samples to both internal management teams and customer representatives, as required
  • Liaison with Technical for the production of samples for shelf life and nutritional analyses;
  • Liaison with Operations for the co-ordination of factory trials;
  • Support the on-site technical team in generating internal and external customer documentation.
  • Co-ordination and ownership of product launches;
  • Provision of accurate and timely information for costing purposes
  • Support the maintenance & development of the site product portfolio and operational processes.
  • Record departmental activity for KPI and budgetary purposes.
  • Complete other duties as and when required ensuring that the Company meets its objectives.

We have an opportunity for a full time Planning Assistant, to join our team at Lazenby’s, reporting to the Junior Planning Manager.

Cranswick Country Foods is one of the largest pork processors in the UK, dealing with multiple customers, the foodservice sector and further processors. 

An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a Receptionist to join the busy Reception team at the Preston site.  The main purpose of the role is to be responsible for ensuring that the company is represented in a professional and well-organised manner at all times.

The main duties are:

  • Answer a multi-line switchboard quickly (normally within 3 ring cycles) and direct calls accurately to their destination without delay. All call information to be accurately recorded in the call log
  • Monitor access to the reception area so as to prevent unauthorised entry
  • Ensure all communication with customers, suppliers and colleagues is conducted in a professional, efficient and courteous manner and maintain a professional working environment in the reception area
  • Promote good working relations with immediate colleagues. Teamwork is essential to ensure the smooth operation of the reception desk and to ensure adequate cover is maintained at all times
  • Greet all visitors, advise their host of their arrival, and accompany to the required destination where required
  • Maintain bookings for use of the meeting rooms. Prepare meeting rooms for use in external and internal meetings, including refreshments where applicable
  • Sort the incoming mail and promptly distribute to the relevant recipients
  • Frank the outgoing mail (deposited by staff in the post area) ready for collection by Royal Mail each day
  • On a periodic basis throughout the day administer any incoming faxes received and distribute to the relevant recipient in the business
  • Process any mail / parcels requiring transport by courier (UK and overseas)
  • On a weekly basis update and circulate the weekly movements sheet to all relevant management and staff
  • Update and circulate the full site contact list on a quarterly basis and upon request
  • Perform routine clerical tasks upon request within a prompt and reasonable time frame (e.g. photocopying, shredding, laminating, filing etc)
  • Provide administrative / secretarial support for Directors and Senior Management when required
  • Ensure that the reception area is left in a secure state out of office hours and that no confidential mail or documentation is left unattended
  • Work attire must be suited to the front of house position

Please note the successful candidate must possess good communication skills with an excellent spoken and written level of English.

A fantastic opportunity for an Engineering Shift Supervisor to join the team based at Cranswick Gourmet Sausage (Lazenbys) in Hull. Joining us on a full time permanent basis. Working hours are on average 38.5 hours per week (Averaged) 12 hour shifts covering days and supporting nights.

The primary role of the Engineering Supervisor is to supervise the engineering resource on shift, prioritise and assist in the repair of equipment breakdowns as quickly and effectively as possible to limit their effects on the site production targets. Be proactive with their team in the continuous improvement and planned maintenance programs for all site equipment and processes and to be accountable for both the delivery and quality of the teams work.

Key responsibilities:

  • Hands on management of the shift based engineering resource; prioritise incoming breakdown work requests and manage the effective use of the engineering skills within the team
  • Assist in determining the root cause and rectification of any faults on the production process lines within all current legislation. To notify the responsible Area Manager of the anticipated ''downtimes'', ensure all breakdown details including time to rectify fault is properly recorded on Shires (currently installing) and ensure the quality of hand back to production including completion of hand over sheet
  • Manage, assist and be accountable for in shift planned routine maintenance tasks within all areas of the site and repair of any issues found. Report any outstanding issues to engineering department for an assessment of consequences and rectification plan
  • To be proactive with their shift team in the equipment / process continuous improvement programme and be aware of equipment performance trends such as efficiency, quality and waste
  • Carry out routine equipment installations as required with the team and be involved in or familiar with any project plans for the installation of new equipment
  • Responsible for the quality of information recorded in Shires during shift and the effective communication of all relevant information to opposite number at shift change. This ensures that unfinished tasks can be safely completed and the previous shift issues understood
  • Responsible for the contacting of external suppliers / technical support when required out of normal hours to liaise on problems and breakdowns
  • In conjunction with the Engineering Manager compile a skills matrix and development plan for their shift team
  • As part of the team-working environment assist in educating operators in the mechanical operation of their equipment ensuring that Health and Safety legislation is complied with. This will allow them to assist with basic maintenance practices and ensure the correct set up procedures are followed for their equipment
  • Ensure that Company Health and Safety Standards are complied with and safe working practices are always adopted
  • All team RTW's are actioned

Qualifications and experience:

  • Electrical skills and knowledge are essential.
  • Craft Apprenticeship or equivalent tech. training (multi-skilled electrical / mechanical)
  • Previous Supervisors experience is essential.
  • Working hands on Supervisor ideally from a FMCG background

We are looking for a self-motivated and enthusiastic individual, to be representative of the company’s high standards, who can conduct themselves in a professional & positive manner at all times. Excellent communication skills and attention to detail and accuracy is an imperative part of the role. The ideal candidate will also have Technical experience within the food manufacturing industry and knowledge of BMPA requirements and food law would be desirable.

Reporting directly to the Technical Manager you will be responsible for:

  • Completing product specifications.
  • Maintaining document control and drawing up recipes.
  • Ensuring each product has been approved and finalised
  • Generating an appropriate reference library database of all NPD samples with key details and photographs.
  • Generating product artwork, packaging and ensuring the labelling is in accordance with current legislation and customer requirements.
  • Managing the customer relationship as well as with internal departments such as Technical, purchasing and NPD.
  • Completing any other customer technical information to specific customer requirements to agreed timescales.
  • Liaise closely with the laboratory regarding the collection and collation of shelf life and analytical results.
