We have always had a keen focus on running the business in a fair, ethical and efficient way, and we take our responsibilities seriously.
Over the last five years, we have seen a 24% reduction in our greenhouse gas emissions; a 6% reduction in energy consumption per tonne of product and achieved zero food to landfill and an 88% reduction in waste to landfill. We have gained a Tier 1 position in the Global Business Benchmarking for Farm Animal Welfare for the third consecutive year, and we are the only food manufacturer with this recognition. Also, our focus on reducing packaging and food waste has become part of the day job across our sites.
So, while we have been successful with individual projects, we now want to step up our commitments and really make a difference across the wider business and the industry as a whole.
As we take decisive action and continue to embed sustainability into our business, we are working with collaborators and partners to cultivate meaningful change. From the seed of an idea to the reaping of results, we’re striving to make the business and industry we operate in a positive force. Not just for today, but for generations to come.
2018 was a pivotal year in our sustainability journey. Our Second Nature sustainability strategy is about aligning our goals and targets to bigger global and national initiatives; demonstrating leadership and vision within the food industry and bringing our team on this journey with us.
