Meet Victoria - Our Community Champion
As Business Systems Controller, I’m really passionate about cutting single-use plastic and animal welfare, yet I know food waste, and improving community food poverty are things we’re absolutely able to influence at site. I can’t reconcile the amount of food that gets thrown away to the number of people that go hungry every day.
I’m a huge advocate of working in our communities and with our local businesses to make sure that all edible food is utilised in a way that benefits someone and does not go to waste. We donate the main proteins to EMS which supports their Freedom Centre meal project. The team there work tirelessly to cook and sell meals at heavily subsidised prices to families who need the nutritious meals they provide.
We also donated to Holiday Hunger campaigns through each school holiday via Hull County Council in 2020 and are making this a regular occurrence. We also support food hampers for various charities including Hull Women’s Aid, who we work closely with and are hoping to support further with some exciting projects this year.
I’m very proud of some large-scale beach cleans we’ve done with Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and the Holiday Hunger and EMS donations. However, I have to say that the Stocking Appeal we ran this Christmas for Hull Women’s Aid to provide 86 children with presents just blew me away. The reaction from everyone donating and the team at HWA when they came to pick up the presents was very emotional and brought home to all of us who worked on that project just how lucky we are.
The passion and involvement we have seen from our colleagues to get involved in our Second Nature community projects has been heart-warming and inspirational.
