Meet Dale - The Transport Changemaker
Since joining Cranswick in 1992, I have worked in different roles throughout the business from despatch and logistics, to Transport Manager.
As an avid ornithologist, the conservation of land and the protection of biodiversity is a passion of mine. I'd love to see more land set aside to allow nature to thrive. For me, the most important reason to protect the environment is to provide a long-term future for nature and all species that inhabit it, but in doing so we will help to ensure human health, food security and help to fight disease. Over time, this will benefit businesses, provide livelihoods and protect all of us; so we need to make sure we’re doing everything we can to protect it.
I'm delighted to have been working on a very exciting project recently, which has seen the addition of our first four fully electric refrigerated trailers to our transport fleet. The trailers powered by renewable electricity are a new technology which, when paired with our lorry cabs that are run on hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), result in journeys that are almost emission free. HVO reduces carbon emissions by over 98% compared to conventional diesel, with added benefits of reducing environmental pollutants and fossil fuel consumption.
Thanks to the fantastic group effort and teamwork, we've now got 30 electrical supply points across our loading docks. Over the coming years, if this trial is deemed successful, Cranswick plans to convert the entire fleet to this technology as part of its carbon reduction program and commitment to reach Net Zero by 2040.
Second Nature provides a strong focus on sustainability within our business, my next step will be to review our forklifts and our truck wash operations to see where we are able to further reduce diesel use.
