Meet Marcus ⁣Hoggarth The Community Changemaker

“Following the report by End Child Poverty in 2018, which showed that more than a third of Hull children are living in poverty, Cranswick created a stakeholder collective called Hull Food Save Project. We worked with Hull Food Bank, OLIO and EMS Ltd.

We got to know EMS well as we shared food and time from several different site locations for the EMS Freedom Foods ready meals project. EMS make on average 170 fresh and nutritious meals a week and deliver them out to five community fridges around Hull. Each meal will serve up to a family of four.

I was inspired to tackle the root cause of poverty by supporting EMS more directly. EMS is a community-focused company based in east Hull and covering Hull, East Yorkshire, North and North East Lincolnshire, working with residents, community groups and local businesses to alleviate food and fuel poverty.

As a trustee of EMS, I sit on the board and support Jan and the team. I help with governance and strategic input, and some of the day-to-day help, like product supply and our teams who help to produce the meals. It also supports our Second Nature objectives in terms of Food Loss as we avoid sending good quality food into waste streams.”

“Marcus works in and is very knowledgeable about the food sector and brings with him an enthusiasm and commitment. He makes sure we’re adhering to the relevant legislation and helps to come up with ideas regarding the strategic development of the charity and projects to improve the lives of the residents we work with along with looking at ways to protect the environment.“

Jan Boyd, Founder and Chief Executive of EMS Ltd.
