Meet Andy Mayer The Zero Hunger Changemaker

I’ve always had a real passion for manufacturing. My dad ran a number of businesses, so as a child I’d spend my Saturdays following him around his factories, fascinated. I decided early on I wanted to pursue a career in food, so after doing a degree in chemistry, which equipped me with lots of practical and analytical skills, I joined the Greggs graduate programme. Later I was head of production at Thorntons, and then I worked with Pork Farms before coming to Cranswick in 2013.

Second Nature has achieved a lot – I’m really proud that we have managed to remove 40 tonnes of plastic from our operations every year, for example. But another area where we are making a real difference is in eliminating hunger. I’m very mindful that a lot of people, even those earning a living wage, struggle to feed their families in a balanced and nutritious way, so I’m proud that the work we do helps to tackle that.
