The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is recognised globally as the gold standard for science-based climate targets.
Since 2021, Cranswick has had validated near‑term science‑based targets to reduce its Scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and is pleased to announce that it has updated and validated its science‑based targets to align with the SBTi Forest, Land and Agriculture (FLAG) guidance. The previous SBTi near-term targets have been superseded, and now has SBTi long-term targets that extend their commitments through to 2050 and Net-Zero.
Cranswick produces and sources materials from both forestry and agriculture, which means it must separately report Forest, Land and Agriculture (FLAG) emissions from its energy and industrial emissions, such as the combustion of natural gas or diesel. FLAG emissions cover both land‑use change activities, including deforestation, and land‑management impacts such as manure management and enteric fermentation. As a result of this reporting update, Cranswick’s total emissions remain unchanged, but its FLAG emissions are now categorised and disclosed separately for greater transparency.
Cranswick has updated its science‑based targets to ensure full alignment with the latest SBTi FLAG guidance, to establish validated long‑term Net‑Zero targets, and to re-baseline its Scope 1 and 2 emissions to reflect the early adoption of renewable electricity. These updated targets continue to align with the goals of the Paris Agreement, have been formally approved by the company’s ESG Committee, and are regularly monitored by management and the Board to ensure ongoing progress and accountability.
