Cranswick join the Coronation Food Project to tackle food poverty

Cranswick is proud to have joined the Coronation Food Project, coordinated by The King Charles III Charitable Fund.

The project commits to tackling food waste and food insecurity across the United Kingdom by supporting food redistribution charities, FareShare and The Felix Project to create a more sustainable future.

This landmark initiative sees Cranswick partnering with Sainsbury’s and Greencore, through the FareShare Manufacturing Alliance, to supply more than 1 million meals to help families and individuals, who are at risk of hunger and food poverty during the winter months.

Currently 13 million people in the UK, including 4 million children, don’t know where their next meal is coming from. The Coronation Food Project aims alleviate this insecurity by encouraging companies across all areas of the food production supply chain to collaborate, contributing their surplus resources to prevent edible food waste and bring about real environmental and social change.

The partnership allows Cranswick to provide quality, protein-rich ingredients which will then be used to create complete nutritious, healthy meals for FareShare to distribute to frontline charities and community groups in need.

George Wright, CEO of FareShare says: "The response from the food industry leaders and their teams has been incredible. I shared the idea with them, and they've really taken it on, working together to make it a reality. The food is already getting to our charities – school clubs, community centres and a whole spectrum of support services - and with so many families impacted by the cost-of-living crisis, it is making a difference already. We are all incredibly grateful to them."

As part of it’s sustainability initiative, Second Nature, Cranswick have worked closely with FareShare, the UK’s largest not-for-profit surplus food redistributor, since 2017. This project continues the important work the business already supports in tackling food insecurity. Already in 2023 over 3 million servings of meat* have been donated by Cranswick so far, supporting FareShare as well as other local and national initiatives.

Adam Couch, Chief Executive Officer at Cranswick, praised the initiative, saying “We are delighted to be working with Sainsbury’s, Greencore and FareShare to support the launch of the Coronation Food Project; collectively providing enough food to supply over 1 million nutritious meals this winter. Cranswick have a long-standing relationship with FareShare, having already donated over 3million servings of meat this year to those in need, and we are pleased to add further support to this important cause.”
