Cranswick Convenience Foods pioneer new fibre-based packaging

Cranswick Convenience Foods Milton Keynes is proud to be at the forefront of sustainable packing innovation, working with fibre-based packaging supplier, Graphic Packaging, to move a range of cooked meats from plastic, into trays produced from PaperLite™ - a thermoformable packaging material which contains 90% plant-based fibre.

The PaperLite 200/23 HB material used is classed as recyclable in many countries and has been assessed by the On-Pack Recycling Label scheme allowing it to be labelled ‘recycle’ in the UK.

The high percentage of fibre in PaperLite reduces the carbon footprint by 85% compared to a plastic tray, further enhancing the sustainability of the pack.

The high fibre content is achieved without compromising barrier performance and hence offers product protection and shelf-life comparable to traditional plastic trays.

This project is another step on Cranswick’s sustainability journey, Second Nature.
