Changemakers tackle Beach Clean

We know that 80% of marine litter comes from the land, and it can kill wildlife – on land small mammals get trapped in cans and plastic bottles, and at sea turtles eat plastic bags and marine birds ingest micro-plastics. ⁣This is why Cranswick has joined Keep Britain Tidy´s mission to clear over a million miles of streets, parks and beaches from litter in hopes that we can all enjoy a cleaner and greener Britain this summer.

Last week a team of Changemakers from Cranswick Convenience Foods, Sutton Fields, tackled a beach clean at Fraisthorpe Beach in conjunction with Yorkshire Wildlife Trust in support of the Great British Spring Clean and World Oceans Day.

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust runs a project called Waves of Waste which supports volunteers in undertaking beach cleans across Yorkshire's coast. During each clean, all litter collected is recorded and fed into a database collected by Keep Britain Tidy and analysed to determine trends occurring.

The team at Sutton Fields were also keen to contribute something to World Oceans Day this year – many of us use our wonderful local beaches all year round and understand it forms a huge part of the economy in the East Yorkshire area, so this was a great opportunity to support several initiatives.

Thank you to all of our volunteers from Sutton Fields and our friends from Cranswick Group Technical Services who joined in the clean and made it a massive success with huge amounts of litter removed, including fishing line, ghost nets, old plastic bottles, sparkly flip flops and socks!
