Celebrating International Men's Day

Today marks International Men’s Day, a global celebration dedicated to recognising the positive contributions of men and boys in our communities, families, and workplaces.

At Cranswick, we’re proud to celebrate the men and boys who help shape our business and make a difference every day. From our farms and factories to our offices and sites, our male colleagues bring dedication, creativity, and care to everything they do.

One of the themes for this year is, “Celebrating Men and Boys” is an opportunity to acknowledge the positive roles they play and to shine a light on the importance of kindness, support, and well-being. Across Cranswick, we’re fortunate to have many inspiring role models who lead with integrity, look out for one another, and champion open conversations about mental health and inclusion.

We spoke to a few of our colleagues from across the business to hear what International Men’s Day means to them, and how they support others in the workplace.

International Men's Day

Kam – Commercial Graduate

“International Men’s Day, to me, is a chance to acknowledge that while society is making great strides in encouraging open conversation, men can still feel pressure to be ‘the strong one’, the person who doesn’t ask for help. This day reminds us that men’s wellbeing matters too, emotionally, mentally, and physically.

Recognising it at Cranswick is important because we’re a business built around people. In such a fast-paced environment, it’s easy to get wrapped up in KPIs and deadlines. A moment like this helps us pause and remember that you don’t have to be perfect to be valued here.”

Sam – Group Talent Acquisition Officer

“International Men’s Day is a great opportunity to recognise and appreciate the men across our business and the experiences they bring. Recognising this helps build a culture of respect, support, and collaboration.”

On the topic of having positive conversations in the workplace, Sam adds:

“Sharing challenges, frustrations, and feelings openly and honestly — in the right way. Open and honest conversations are encouraged, and I think that’s a real strength. It’s something every one of us, especially men, should feel confident doing.”

His advice to those starting their careers?

“Take every opportunity that comes your way, especially the ones that feel outside of your comfort zone. You’ll be surprised at how much you can learn by saying yes to new experiences. Along the way, you’ll develop a wide range of valuable skills and discover strengths you didn’t know you had. The food manufacturing is an industry that rewards hard work and curiosity, and if you’re open to learning, it can offer a truly rewarding and long-term career, something I wish I knew when I was younger.”

Ben – QA Manager

“International Men’s Day is a reminder to reflect on the well-being and experiences of men, both inside and outside the workplace. Recognising the day reinforces our commitment to an inclusive culture where everyone feels valued and supported.”

Ben shared how his team supports well-being in practical ways:

“We try to create an environment where people feel comfortable raising concerns early. I try to lead by example — being approachable, offering support, and making time for informal conversations that have nothing to do with work.”

And his advice to younger men in the industry:

“Be curious and willing to learn, this industry moves quickly, and the more you absorb early on, the stronger your foundations will be. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or make mistakes; both are essential parts of learning.”

Build good relationships, because success in the food industry relies heavily on teamwork and communication. And most importantly, look after yourself. Your well-being is just as important as your performance. The industry is full of opportunities, and with the right attitude, it can be a long, fulfilling career path.”

Words of Wisdom from Our Leadership Team

As part of this year’s International Men’s Day celebrations, members of our Leadership Team shared advice they’d give to their younger selves, guidance that’s just as relevant in life as it is at work.

Andy, Group Marketing Director shared:

“Trust and respect is earned and can take a long time to build – but it can be lost very quickly.

Be nice; be helpful; do what you say you will do and be someone people want to be around.

Respect the views of other people – you won’t always agree, but understanding different perspectives can help you get on.”

Andy’s words reflect what International Men’s Day is all about, recognising the importance of respect, understanding, and leading by example in everything we do.

Together, we’re proud to celebrate the men and boys who help make Cranswick such a great place to work today and every day.

A big thank you to Kam, Sam, Ben, and Andy for sharing their thoughts and experiences as part of this year’s International Men’s Day celebrations.
