Meat Inspector
Pay: £17.50-£17.85 per hour
Job Description:
An exciting opportunity has become available for a Meat Inspector.
JOB PURPOSE:
To work as part of the Preparation team to help achieve the daily production plan whilst adhering to procedures, rules and processes set out by production management and other key functions.
To work in a safe and time-effective manner in accordance with health and safety standards and ensure food safety, hygiene and quality standards are achieved at all times.
JOB CONTEXT:
Reporting directly to the Preparation Manager, working alongside factory colleagues and key disciplines i.e., Preparation Shift Supervisor, Preparation Manager, Technical Manager and the Health and Safety Manager.
You will be expected to demonstrate sound communication and organisational skills to achieve the planned production levels.
Main responsibilities are:
Carry out frequent product quality attribute checks in accordance with product specifications.
- To raise and deal with non-conformance reports as necessary.
- Trained and signed off to the relevant customer specifications.
- To ensure safe product and customer specification.
- To attend production meetings on daily basis and all issues need to be addressed at the meeting.
- To inspect the meat within all WIP areas daily to ensure that the meat supplied to the slicing hall is in the right condition to the slice at the time required.
- To monitor a critical control point (CCP) in line with the relevant FSP training.
- To control stock levels at all times, ensuring there is a stock for daily production.
- Ensure that all paperwork in the area is completed correctly and handed into the relevant personnel.
- To ensure equipment is maintained in a safe and hygienic manner throughout operation.
- Coordination and verification of completed documentation to ensure a high level of accuracy is maintained.
- Monitor personal and working hygiene practices within department to ensure a high level of standard is maintained.
- Task, train and multi skill line operatives on all relevant departmental tasks.
- Ensure operatives under their control comply with health and safety policies e.g. wearing the correct PPE prior to commencement of task.
- To report any technical issues to the Technical Manager, who will relay to manufacturing supplier.
- To promote equal opportunities.
- Undertake any training that may be required or desirable.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as and when required commensurate with the post that may be determined following consultation between yourself, Supervisor and Factory Manager.
- Assist in other departments if required.
- Involvement in the risk assessment process, to reduce the risk of health and safety.
- Ensuring that all information relevant to “preventative and protective measures” is passed to your subordinates.
- To understand the requirement of all our customers and demonstrate a professional attitude at all time.
- Liaise with the Health and Safety Coordinator to establish controls for health and safety to include: Daily Start Up checks, Accident and Near Miss Investigations, monitoring of corrective actions coordinate with other departments to ensure that planned preventative maintenance is carried out for safety systems for machinery and equipment in your Area of responsibility.
In addition, you will undertake any training that the company deems necessary that may assist you to effectively carry out the above responsibilities.
Requirements, Experience and Person Specification:
- Group and site induction.
- Level 2 H&S awareness.
- Understanding of relevant risk assessments and safe working procedures.
- Understanding and application of hazard identification and near miss reporting.
- Reliability and good timekeeping
- Great awareness of basic food hygiene / health and safety principles.

Continental shifts 3 on 1 off 3 on 7 off from 7.00am-7.00pm
