Hygiene Team Leader (Nights)

Reports to: Hygiene Manager
Contract: Full-Time Night’s 3 on 1 off 3 on 7 off 6.30pm - 7am

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Hygiene Team Leader to join our team at our Sherburn site.

Reporting directly to the Hygiene Manager, you will lead and support the Hygiene team to ensure the factory is maintained to the highest standards of hygiene, food safety, quality, and health & safety. You will play a key role in driving continuous improvement, developing team members, and ensuring all cleaning activities are completed effectively and in line with company, customer, and legal requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership

  • Lead, motivate, and support the Hygiene team to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Conduct team briefings and promote a positive, high-performance culture.
  • Complete staff training, development plans, appraisals, and performance reviews.
  • Coach and develop team members to improve performance and behaviours.
  • Coordinate resources effectively to ensure all cleaning schedules are completed.

Hygiene & Food Safety

  • Ensure all factory areas and equipment are cleaned and sanitised to the required standards.
  • Verify that cleaning tasks are completed and appropriately documented.
  • Conduct hygiene audits and inspections to ensure compliance.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining cleaning procedures and hygiene standards.
  • Monitor cleaning chemical concentrations and take corrective action where required.
  • Support the achievement of customer, legal, and regulatory standards including BRC, BMPA, PIU and M&S requirements.

Health & Safety

  • Promote and maintain a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Ensure hygiene team members understand and comply with health and safety responsibilities.
  • Challenge unsafe behaviours and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Complete and review workplace safety checks and risk assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and site rules.

Continuous Improvement

  • Drive improvements through lean manufacturing techniques and best practices.
  • Monitor and contribute to Key Performance Indicator (KPI) improvements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, safety, and operational performance.
  • Support the Hygiene Manager with the management of energy, water, chemical, and consumable usage.

Operational Support

  • Liaise with Production, Technical, Planning, Human Resources, Health & Safety and other departments to coordinate cleaning schedules.
  • Complete and maintain all relevant documentation to ensure traceability and compliance.
  • Carry out building and fabrication audits.
  • Provide cover for the Hygiene Manager when required.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties required to maintain product safety, legality, and quality.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience in a hygiene leadership or supervisory role within a food manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety legislation and safe systems of work.
  • Experience leading, motivating, and developing teams.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Experience completing audits, inspections, and associated documentation.
  • Competent IT skills and experience using management systems.
