Hygiene Team Leader (Nights)

The purpose of the role is to implement and supervise all of the hygiene operations and cleaning of all process areas and equipment in line with the agreed H&S hygiene schedules and cleaning instruction cards established by the Hygiene Manager. Maintain product safety, hygiene and microbiological standards by ensuring that the process teams have the required cleaned items to meet process needs at all times. 

Main duties include (but not limited to): 

  • Supervise, brief and train Tray Wash & Hygiene Operatives in maintaining satisfactory standards of performance, safety and hygiene 
  • Utilise staff in an effective way to ensure the team provide value to the tray wash operation and ensure cost effectiveness of the department 
  • Ensure that cleaning and disinfection are carried out at the frequency and according to the methods specified in the factory hygiene schedule and instruction cards 
  • Responsible for checking the standard of cleaning is in accordance with the specifications via visual inspection, protein swabs and microbiological swabs, and signing the required documentation 
  • Maintain the daily & weekly records for the tray wash area. Cleaning chemicals, equipment, H&S records, titrations, temperatures, numbers of item cleaned, holiday and absences information 
  • Report any issues to the relevant person or dept (Engineers, QA, Hygiene Supervisors, Hygiene Manager) 
  • Ensure all cleaning equipment is maintained in an effective, hygienic condition, always maintain housekeeping standards 
  • Manage the hygienic collection and disposal of site waste 
  • Liaise with the QA Manager regarding daily hygiene audits, chemical dilution checks and swab results 
  • Ensure team are carrying out the required checks of all cleaned items 
  • Ensure all staff are trained to carry out the tasks allocated, ensure all new starters are trained before starting any tasks 
  • Deliver on key performance indicators  
  • Improve processes and practices 
  • Carry out activities with full awareness of their impact on the environment, in terms of people and the local area 
  • Objectively assess the team’s performance  
  • Ensure clarity of role for team members, including assigning of tasks, coaching and providing feedback 
  • Assume responsibility for the management of activities which ensure food safety, integrity, legality and quality 

Requirements, experience and person specification: 

  • Previous experience of FMCG manufacturing (preferably food related) 
  • Proven track record of managing teams 
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement tools and techniques 
  • All core training and mandatory procedures  
  • All relevant site/area policies, procedures & processes (including customer specific requirements) 
  • Level 3 Food Safety 
  • IOSH
