We are currently recruiting for a Butchery Academy Trainer to join our Preston site - our primary Pork facility within the Hull and East Riding region. With significant ongoing investment and expansion, this is an exciting opportunity to be part of a fast-paced, forward-thinking site with plenty of scope to contribute and develop.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone experienced in Butchery to play a massive part training, coaching, and developing our Butchery Apprentices and Trainee Butchers.

Main duties include (but not limited to):

  • Train and support apprentices to achieve correct quality standards.
  • To lead by example and take a hands-on approach to all aspects of training.
  • To ensure that all supporting training documents are filled in accurately.
  • To instigate all aspects of training as directed by the Area Manager/ Butchery Manager.
  • Co-ordinate line rotation and changeovers ensuring each member of the team knows and executes their role effectively.
  • Liaise with the Quality Champion and QA’s to ensure all WIP documentation and operational checks are completed to the required standard.
  • Liaise with other Line Leader / Area Leaders in service departments regarding any potential production and material issues.
  • Ensure management of line break times. Inform the Area Manager of individuals breaching break limits and assist in investigations where necessary.
  • Ensure accurate recording of yield, waste and other key metrics, and maintain a culture of awareness as to why this is important.
  • Ensure that equipment is used safely and all defects are promptly reported to your Area Leader.
  • Communicate to your Line Leader or Area Leader any concerns about colleagues’ working practices impacting on quality, GMP or presenting a H&S risk.
  • Challenge current processes and practices, with a view to improve.
  • Ensure that all statutory (industry guidelines), legal, food safety, health & Safety and customer requirements are met.
  • Ensure adherence to all standards and processes relating to CCP monitoring, glass, complaints, label verifications and other paperwork in your area.

What we Look For:

  • Previous Butchery experience (essential)
  • Proven track record of leading teams/developing staff
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement tools and techniques
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office) to support apprentices with e-learning
  • Ability to interact with colleagues, Management and customers
