World Oceans Day is held every year on 8th June to raise awareness of the vital importance of our oceans and the role they play in sustaining a healthy planet.
At Cranswick, we take our responsibilities to people and the planet seriously through our industry leading sustainability strategy, Second Nature. We want to protect and restore our natural habitats, which is why we are pleased to announce our Gourmet Sausage site in Hull will be integrating Prevented Ocean Plastic (POP) into the retail sausage trays produced on site.
Prevented Ocean Plastic is a global recycling initiative which helps tens of thousands of people around the world to earn their living, clean their coastlines and prevent ocean plastic. Incorporating POP into the site’s packaging will prevent a minimum of 192 tonnes of plastic (the equivalent of over 15 million 500ml water bottles) from leaching into local waterways, food chains and especially the ocean, every single year.
This aligns to the World Oceans Day 2022 theme, Revitalisation: Collective Action for the Ocean, helping us to play our part and one we hope will help to ignite collaborative change.
