Across Cranswick Convenience Foods, the teams have been taking part in a new recycling initiative that will allow their PPE to be given a new lease of life while moving this waste up the waste disposal hierarchy. This would result in a significant amount of waste being diverted from incineration, to being recycled and reused.
The initiative is organised by a company called ‘Food Clean’ who are experts in effective PPE recycling and disposal. Through their partnership with Cranswick, Food Clean collects the used wellington boots and garments through containers across the site, before they are collected and taken to be recycled. Once this process has taken place, the recycled materials are then used to make playground surfaces and athletic fields across the UK.
Not only are these wellington boots recyclable, but they are also extremely comfortable, making them much more agreeable for colleagues throughout their shifts.
A colleague from the Cranswick Convenience Foods site in Hull stated “The boots are extremely comfortable. I walk around 10 miles per day when I am on shift and most of this is in WashGuard boots. They’re great.’’
As a business, we constantly strive to make changes and use considerate ingenuity to do what is best for the world around us, and this new initiative is just a small part of that. To find out more about Cranswick’s ESG strategy and Second Nature plans, take a look here.
