Climate Pledge: Cranswick plc joins Amazon’s Net Zero drive

Cranswick has joined The Climate Pledge, a commitment co-founded by Amazon and Global Optimism to meet the goals of The Paris Agreement 10 years early, along with world leading companies such as Microsoft and Unilever (read more here).

Cranswick has a robust plan in place to deliver Net Zero by 2040 to deliver against climate change as part of its vision to become the world’s most sustainable meat business. Already committed to taking science-based, high impact actions to tackle climate change, we’re committed to integrating sustainable practices throughout our operations, from farming to sourcing and producing.

We’re focused on decarbonising our owned farms and significantly reducing food loss and overall resource waste in our supply chain and production, all by 2030. We’re prioritising animal welfare and responsible sourcing from verified zero deforestation areas.

Since 2018, we’ve made significant progress, for instance, switching to 100% renewable grid supplied electricity: reducing edible food waste by 61%, to 0.4% of total production and removing over 1,200 tonnes of plastic.

As members of The Science Based Targets Initiative, we’re already committed to moving beyond business-as-usual and playing our part in achieving a resilient, zero carbon economy. However, we also understand that tackling climate change will be most effective if organisations work together and collaborate to develop new solutions and share best practice to speed up progress and make a real difference.

Standing with Amazon, Global Optimism and the other signatories of The Climate Pledge the business has committed to being net zero by 2040 – ten years ahead of The Paris Agreement. In addition, as a signatory of The Climate Pledge, Cranswick will:

  • Measure and report greenhouse gas emissions on a regular basis.

  • Implement decarbonisation strategies in line with The Paris Agreement through real business change and innovations, including efficiency improvements, renewable energy, materials reductions, and other carbon emission elimination strategies.

  • Take actions to neutralise any remaining emissions with additional, quantifiable, real, permanent, and socially-beneficial offsets to achieve net zero annual carbon emissions by 2040.
