JOB PURPOSE:

The Proximity IT Engineer role is responsible for assisting in the maintenance, reliability, and day-to-day support of IT systems across the business. Acting as an extension of the Group Service Desk, this role provides hands-on technical support to ensure critical IT systems remain stable, secure, and aligned with business needs.This position will involve supporting multiple sites located at Hull, all within proximity to each other. The successful candidate will provide on-site and remote support across these locations, ensuring consistent IT service delivery.The IT Proximity Engineer is responsible for supporting ongoing projects, resolving incidents, monitoring systems, and assisting with infrastructure activities. The role contributes to maintaining reliable IT operations while developing expertise in supporting end users and managing the Cranswick IT estate. This position requires strong communication skills, a proactive approach, and a commitment to continuous learning in a fast-paced environment.

Main Duties:

  • Provide IT support to end users across the Hull, acting as an extension of the Group Service Desk.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve day-to-day IT issues, escalating more complex problems to the Group Service Desk when needed.
  • Support and maintain IT equipment including desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and printers.
  • Assist with the setup, deployment, and roll-out of IT hardware and software across the supported sites.
  • Maintain accurate records of IT assets, support requests, and resolutions.
  • Provide guidance to local users on IT systems and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with IT security policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with the Group Service Desk and wider IT team on projects and continuous improvement activities.

Requirements, Experience and Person Specification:

  • A strong interest in IT and technology, with a willingness to learn and develop within a business environment.
  • Eagerness to grow within the business, with a proactive attitude towards developing new skills and embracing emerging technologies.
  • Comfortable working hands-on with IT hardware such as PCs, laptops, mobile devices, printers, and networking equipment (training will be provided where required).
  • Some basic understanding of IT principles – whether through education, personal projects, work experience, or self-learning.
  • Willingness to work in fast-paced environments and provide IT support both in the office and on the factory floor.
  • A team player who enjoys working alongside colleagues in IT, engineering, and production to solve problems and deliver practical solutions.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to follow technical instructions and maintain accurate records.
  • Reliable and organised, with an awareness of the importance of system uptime, security, and business continuity.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, able to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Full UK driving licence, with flexibility to travel between the Hull sites.
