The Purpose of the Role is to ensure the timely, safe and efficient transport of goods into and out of the Preston site, in order to fulfil the needs of the business.
Main duties include (but not limited to):
- Under the guidance of the Transport Manager, ensure that the designated loads are transported to the assigned destination
- Ensure that any timescales set by the Transport Manager are met in line with legal guidelines; or if this is not possible, to report any shortcomings at the earliest possible opportunity
- Conduct oneself in line with the current road highway legislation, including maintaining speed limits and driving in a safe and responsible manner
- Maintain the upkeep of a current LGV Driving License for the appropriate class of vehicle
- Responsibility for checking pallet numbers and box counts prior to signing authorization documents ensuring that all figures are correct and in order
- Adhere to the relevant customer guidelines regarding delivery of goods into depots maintaining and ensuring the reputation of Cranswick Country Foods at all times
- Collate and document relevant paperwork
- Maintain a clean and tidy cab, meeting both safety and hygiene regulations at all times
- Wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment at all times
- Responsibility for maintaining the appropriate checks on vehicles and a duty to report and record any vehicle faults immediately to the Transport Manager
- Behave in a safe and appropriate manner at all times
- Maintain high levels of work performance including attendance, timekeeping etc
- Liaise with colleagues in other departments to ensure the throughput of all products in a timely and efficient manner
- Contribute to KPIs in quality, health, safety and environment, yields and customer service
- Assume responsibility for the management of activities which ensure food safety, integrity, legality and quality
- Uphold good housekeeping and hygiene practices to ensure product safety, with particular attention to temperature control and general hygiene
Requirements, experience and person specification
- HGV Driving Licence (Class 1)
- Previous experience of FMCG manufacturing (advantageous)
- Understanding of continuous improvement tools and techniques
- Ability to meet job requirements
