IT Service Desk Engineer

📍 Brough – Office-Based

Cranswick plc, a FTSE 250 UK food producer, is looking for a technically skilled and proactive IT Engineer to join our Group IT team in Brough, East Yorkshire. This role goes beyond day-to-day support — you’ll be instrumental in troubleshooting complex issues, participating in "swarming" sessions, mentoring team members, and contributing to continuous improvement across our infrastructure and systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support through a range of channels
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues across:
    • Windows operating systems and applications
    • Cisco, Meraki, and Fortinet networks (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN)
    • Microsoft Azure and Intune environments
    • Active Directory, Group Policy, and Office 365
    • Rubrik backup infrastructure
    • SQL (basic support, queries, monitoring, backup/restore)
    • Hyper-V and cyber security tooling
  • Lead or participate in “swarming” sessions to resolve complex or high-impact issues while sharing knowledge across the team.
  • Own and improve key technical systems and processes.
  • Support rollout and upgrade projects across multiple UK sites.
  • Document solutions and contribute to the IT knowledge base.
  • Champion IT security best practices and data protection policies.
  • Participate in an on-call support rota (Monday–Friday) and provide weekend cover (6am–10am) every 12 weeks.
  • Ensure service levels are maintained across support operations.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in a technical support or engineering role within a multi-site or enterprise environment.
  • Solid hands-on knowledge of:
    • Windows OS and enterprise environments
    • Cisco, Meraki, and Fortinet networking
    • Azure, Intune, and MDM solutions
    • Active Directory, Group Policy, Office 365
    • SQL (basic)
    • Rubrik backup technologies and Hyper-V
    • Cyber security tooling and practices
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and customer engagement abilities.
  • A collaborative, mentoring mindset with a focus on learning and development.
  • Positive attitude with a passion for technology and improvement.

Desirable Extras

  • Industry certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified, ITIL Foundation).
  • Familiarity with ITSM tools such as ServiceNow, Jira, or Freshservice.
  • Interest or experience in automation or scripting.
