Cranswick have announced their partnership with The Institute for Global Food Security at Queen’s University Belfast to help lead one of the world’s largest food safety projects across Europe and China. The European Horizon 2020 programme have secured €10 million towards an EU-China partnership to improve food safety, combat food fraud and restore consumer trust.
On Saturday 10th June, almost 100 Cranswick employees completed the gruelling Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge as part of an ongoing charity initiative, More Together. Along with 17 other Hull based businesses, a total of 550 people battled through the challenging weather conditions, in a bid to raise money for various charities. The group climbed a total of 1,585 metres during the challenge, which took in the summits of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborogh.
On Saturday 10th June, a group of 4 Cranswick employees raised £2,129 as part of the gruelling Samworth Charity Challenge. The team, consisting of John Leonard, Matt Briggs, Andrew Toon and Dan McCormack, endured an 8.9 mile run up Skiddaw Mountain (3000ft of climbing), a 4.5 mile canoe row and a 20 mile bike ride whilst having to navigate an obstacle course in a bid to collect points along the way.
The charity, established in 1992, provides specialist palliative care for patients with incurable illnesses throughout the Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire region. Their care is provided by a multi-disciplinary team and includes in-patient care, day therapy units, family support, physiotherapy and occupational therapy. Since their services are provided free of charge to patients and their families, Dove House Hospice rely heavily on support from the local community.
Cranswick has been recognised for its leading approach to sustainability at this year’s Made in Yorkshire Awards. The event, which was held at the Royal Armouries in Leeds on Thursday 20th April, is organised by Insider Media with the aim of celebrating successful companies based in Yorkshire and the Humber region.
Cranswick were pleased to attend the crowning of Yorkshire’s Best Young Chef at The Golden Apron 2017 competition as one of the main event sponsors. Celebrating its fourth year, the awards are run by James Mackenzie, the chef and owner of the Michelin-starred Pipe and Glass, the Yorkshire Wolds Cookery School and farming company JSR.
Cranswick is proud to sponsor this year’s Humber Bridge Sportive event as principal partner. The sportive, which will take place on 18th June, challenges cyclists of all riding abilities to participate in one of three different routes planned.
Cranswick plc has signed up to a unique charity project called “More Together” with several other businesses in the East Riding of Yorkshire. The project will challenge Cranswick employees to compete in three different physical activities in a bid to raise money for charitable causes in the upcoming summer months. Whether it is hiking 24 miles across the Yorkshire Three Peaks, battling through 30 obstacles in the Total Warrior challenge or walking 4 miles across the Humber Bridge in fancy dress, there is an opportunity for all employees to get involved.
Cranswick plc has been recognised for its leadership in farm animal welfare in a report published yesterday, 23rd January 2017. The Business Benchmark on Farm Animal Welfare (BBFAW) evaluates the world’s leading food producers, retailers and service companies on their management and reporting on farm animal welfare. At the report’s launch in New York, it was announced that Cranswick plc has attained impressive marks, earning its place in Tier 1 of the industry rankings.
As one of East Yorkshire’s largest employers, Cranswick plc announced it was strengthening its links to arts and culture in the city by signing up as a City Partner for Hull 2017 UK City of Culture. The Hull based food producer and supplier found its roots in Hull after starting its successful business there over 40 years ago. Today, Cranswick employs over 4,000 people who live in the city and to are keen to support this fantastic initiative.
Woodall’s, produced by Cranswick plc, has scooped up a Quality Food Award for its Cumberland sausages and three Great Taste Awards for its range of air dried hams and smoked pancetta. The awards, which took place on 10th November at Grosvenor House, were introduced by celebrity chef Simon Rimmer. The prestigious awards showcase the best products in UK groceries in which Woodall’s took the title for ‘Best Sausage’ with its Outdoor Bred British Cumberland Sausage.
Cranswick has been awarded certification for their participation in the IFST Group Membership Scheme. The Institute of Food Science & Technology (IFST) are the leading independent qualifying body for food professionals in Europe. They are the only professional body in the UK who represent all areas of food science and technology. The institution aims to promote the advancement and application of food science and technology for the benefit, safety and health of the public.
Cranswick was proud to attend the Yorkshire and Humber Skills Event held at the Elland Road stadium in Leeds on the 19th and 20th of October. The team, who were representing the diverse career prospects within the Food Manufacturing industry, took home the ‘Best Interactive Team’ award. Their enthusiastic demonstrations and engaging activities proved well-received amongst the high school pupils.
Cranswick are pleased to announce that Lucy Beadle, Agricultural Supply Chain Manager, was a Finalist in the Young Manager of the Year Award at the Meat Management Awards. Lucy joined Cranswick in 2014 on the Graduate Scheme and now works to support and develop our processes within our Agricultural team. Lucy completed an agricultural degree at Harper Adams University.
Cranswick has won the Training Scheme of the Year award at the Meat Management Awards, recognising the success of the Graduate Training Scheme. The scheme has been running in it’s current form since March 2015 and has been designed to offer graduates a full overview of the Cranswick business.
