Last week, a team of volunteers from Sutton Fields tackled a beach clean at Fraisthorpe Beach in conjunction with Yorkshire Wildlife Trust in support of the Great British Spring Clean and Word Ocean Day.
Yorkshire Wildlife Trust run a project called Waves of Waste which supports volunteers in undertaking beach cleans across Yorkshire's coast. During each clean, all litter collected is recorded and fed into a database collected by Keep Britain Tidy and analysed to determine trends occurring.
Sutton Fields were also keen to contribute something to World Oceans Day this year – many of our colleagues visit the local beaches all year round and understand it forms a huge part of the economy in the East Yorkshire area, so this was a great opportunity to support several initiatives.
It also helped that the sun was shining and fish and chips were enjoyed by all at the end of the clean!
Thank you to all of our volunteers from Sutton Fields and our friends from Group Technical Services who joined in the clean and made it a massive success with huge amounts of litter removed, including fishing line, ghost nets, old plastic bottles , sparkly flip flops and socks!
