Site NPD Manager

Cranswick Gourmet Pastry, North Yorkshire

​Working within an artisan, foodie business, responsible for leading new product development of premium savoury pastry products for a diverse and high-profile range of customers.


Main duties include (but not limited to):

  • Core Responsibilities:
    • Working with Head of Innovation to lead the development of new products across all customers, including leading product submission meetings with customers
    • Being main point of contact for customers for anything development based
    • Agreeing and managing multiple critical paths with internal and external stakeholders, around factory and resource availability
    • Constantly keeping up to date with current market trends and innovation, supporting in the development of business vision and customer strategy
    • Working cross functionally to constantly manage and optimise the development process to maximise business potential


  • Day to Day:
    • Recipe development with Head of Innovation to refine concepts
    • Initiating new product costings, co-ordinating cross functional team to supply information required
    • Liaising with Process Development team to support factory trials and product sign off and launch
    • Liaising with Procurement team to source new raw materials, compliant with customer needs
    • Spec’ing new packaging, managing cutter guides and ensuring fit for purpose in factory. Managing critical path for artwork and signing artwork off.


  • Reporting into Commercial Controller, part of the Commercial team
  • Line Manager for NPD Technologist, who has responsibility for development with some customers. Supporting them as required, directing workload to support with customer requirements (sub forms for meetings, benchmarking etc)


Candidate requirements:

  • Strong foodie background and passion for food
  • Previous experience with M&S desirable
  • Strong communication skills, both managing internal stakeholders and customers
  • Strong organisation skills, keeping projects on track and on schedule
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic
  • Computer literate; strong IT skills in Excel, Powerpoint etc
  • Knowledge of food legislation and of use in application
