Job description
Location: Hessle, East Yorkshire with regular travel to farms (min. 3 days on-farm)
Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week
About the Role
Cranswick Farms are seeking a proactive Farm Health and Safety Advisor to champion safety across our agricultural operations. You’ll ensure a safe working environment for staff, contractors, and visitors while driving compliance and fostering a culture of safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead by example to embed a strong safety culture across all farm locations
- Ensure full compliance with HSE regulations, such as COSHH, PUWER, LOLER, and Cranswick policies
- Stay up to date with legislation and industry standards
- Contribute to Cranswick’s group-wide safety objectives
- Conduct regular risk assessments, audits, and inspections
- Identify hazards and ensure timely corrective actions
- Oversee safety compliance for contractors
- Develop and maintain farm-specific safety documentation, emergency response plans, and protocols
- Support implementation of paperless HSE systems where applicable
- Deliver training on machinery safety, manual handling, chemical handling, PPE, emergency procedures, etc.
- Engage farm staff through toolbox talks, safety tours, and regular communication
- Lead accident/incident investigations
- Identify root causes and implement preventative measures
- Track KPIs such as accident trends, hazards, and near misses
- Advise on fire safety, hazardous substances, noise, and occupational health
- Provide coaching during operational changes (e.g. new equipment or workflow changes)
- Support farm managers in embedding safety into daily routines
- Promote environmentally responsible behaviour
- Adhere to Cranswick’s Ethical Policies and Codes of Conduct
- Support Second Nature environmental principles
- Understand and uphold responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
- Actively participate in risk assessments, inspections, and safety reporting
- Ensure safety checks and corrective actions are completed across machinery, livestock areas, and site walkarounds
- Model safe behaviour and coach others to follow suit
- Communicate clearly around safety KPIs and performance
About You
- NEBOSH General Certificate (Diploma desirable)
- Proven H&S experience (agriculture preferred)
- Full clean UK driving licence
- Excellent communication and influencing skills
- Self-motivated with strong organisation and attention to detail
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and safety management software
- Passionate about safety and continuous improvement
- Minimum 3 days on farm and then office based
