Category Marketing Manager

Cranswick Gourmet Bacon, West Yorkshire

As a Category Marketing Manager, it is your responsibility to develop and drive category plans for the product areas in which we operate, based on a thorough understanding of market performance and customer behaviour. This role will involve developing true expertise in a given product area and use this knowledge to work in partnership with retailers to ensure the category meets the changing needs of customers, giving the retailer and Cranswick opportunities for growth. 

Main duties include (but not limited to):

  • Improve category performance understanding
  • Analysis of weekly/periodic sales performance, including channel and tier performance
  • Analysis of promotional performance to inform promotional strategy
  • Drive retailer category growth & out-performance vs. market
  • Based upon in-depth category and customer understanding make monthly & quarterly recommendations to help drive performance
  • Be a leading voice in shaping the product development plan, taking in to account food and customer behaviour macro trends
  • Continue to build on Cranswick’s existing relationship with a given retailer to ensure we continued to be a preferred supplier for proposed category opportunities
  • Productively manage our Marketing and Research budget 

Requirements, Experience and Person Specification:

  • Experience of working within a Category Management function in an FMCG business
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills to derive insight from complex data sources and work effectively with numeric data sets and spreadsheets
  • Attention to detail and creativity skills to deliver new ways of working
  • Experience of using market data, (e.g. IRI, Nielsen, Kantar, Dunnhumby, Aimia)
  • Confident decision maker and strong communication/influencing skills
  • Ability to maintain and grow relationships with all levels internally and externally 
  • Presents a can-do positive approach at all times
  • Presentation skills to deliver a clear flow and structure, from objective through analysis, observations, insights and learnings to proposals 
  • Time management skills and commitment to deliver to agreed timescales
